Letter is dated 1914 and signed by the GAR Commander at the time Isidore Isaacs of the McQuade Post No. 557 in New York. ****Please note****There is no badge included and ONLY the HAND WRITTEN LETTER being offered in this listing.Information I was able to find through research regarding a couple of the names on this letterhead. Isidore Isaacs was born in 1847 and enlisted in the Civil War under the name of Theodore Barwood in Co. F, 59th NY Volunteers on November 30, 1861. He was discharged on May 29, 1863 and reenlisted in Co. I, 12th NY Cavalry on August 12, 1863. He was discharged from the Cavalry on July 19, 1865. He served as Dept. Commander of the GAR.RIBLET, WILLIAM V. G. (1845-1922). Sergeant, 5th Light Artillery, United States Army, Battery I. Born in Troy, New York, Riblet enlisted as a private and mustered into the 5th Light Artillery of the Regular United States Army. During his service, he was promoted to sergeant of his company. He also joined the Navy at some point in his career. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic’s James McQuade Post #557. This is a thin stock lined paper. There are folds and tears on this letter from handling through the years. There is aging, yellowing on this item. Also imprinted on the back of lined paper (agate bond) – shown in close up photos.
