Description: 1913-S $20 Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagle PCGS MS63 An original Beautiful & Bright orange yellow gold example. PQ++ A true Sleeper Date This coin is from a fresh group a Gold $20’s we recently bought out of a high grade collection that had been off the market for many years. This better date is rare to find in this MS63 condition. A very small group were minted of 34,000 with many melted down and never put in circulation. This is a date most collections are missing from the San Francisco Mint. A PCGS MS65 would cost you $40,000 to $50,00 easy. The MS63 offered today is a nice value play under current market conditions. You won’t find a better deal for this date Created by master sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the 1913-S $20 Gold Saint Gaudens is the descendant of the $20 Liberty Double Eagle which first entered circulation in 1850. The denomination was created as a means of exhausting an overage in gold supply due to the 1849 California Gold Rush. They were never intended for general use in commerce as the amount easily equated to a month's wage during the time of issue - making them impractical to carry as a coin. Instead, they were struck to monetize the surplus of gold and to be used exclusively in business transactions, largely between banks. Coin Highlights: PCGS Encapsulation offers protection and guarantees the MS-63 condition of the coin. Certified by PCGS this is a brand new freshly graded example. Very choice for the grade by today’s standards. Ultra low Mintage of 34,000 Conservatively graded in our opinion, PQ++ This is an amazing coin that’s choice for the grade. Struck at the San Francisco Mint Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Obverse: Depicts Liberty striding forward holding a torch and an olive branch with the U.S. Capitol building in the backdrop. Reverse: Features an eagle in flight against the sun in the background. Beautiful color and very rare in this condition.
