James Rowland Ward (1848–1912) was a British taxidermist and founder of the firm Rowland Ward Limited. The company was renowned for its taxidermy work on birds and big-game trophies. The Rowland Ward company was also known for making fashionable items (sometimes known as Wardian furniture) from animal parts, such as zebra-hoof inkwells, antler furniture, and elephant-feet umbrella stands. Ward created ‘The Sportsman’s Handbook’ series of books in 1880 and intended them as guides on topics such as how to conduct hunts, take care of skins, operate camps, hire guides, and select firearms.
