Thompson's first Peacock edition was printed in October 1894.Thomson's was the first edition of Jane Austen's beloved novel to contain illustrations throughout, with previous editions, such as the Bentley 1833 edition, only containing a frontispiece.Irish illustrator Thomson was best known for his pen-and-ink illustrations of works by authors including Austen, Charles Dickens and J. M. Barrie, inaugurating the 'Cranford School' of illustration with the publication of his 1891 Macmillan edition of Elizabeth Gaskell's 'Cranford'.Illustrated with a frontispiece and over one hundred further vignette illustrations by Thomson.Retaining the original half title.
