18th C Large Engraving Charles Levasseur Village Proche du Mordyck Netherlands

Description: Offered here is a large etching/engraving from somewhere between 1750-1790 by the well-known French printmaker/publisher Charles Levasseur (1734-1816 after a painting by the Flemish artist, Joseph van Bredael (1688-1739). The print is entitled "Village Proche du Mordyck" in a region called Noord-Brabant which is between Antwerp and Rotterdam in present day Netherlands. The print has had some damage over the years, but the image is still clear and very interesting. The engraving shows one boat being loaded at the wharf, while another departs fully loaded. On the right side of the print, in the village, townspeople are working, chatting and watching the boats. There is a copy of this print in the online collection of the British Museum at No. 1877, 0811.1096. This print is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". For example, offered maps are of the period. Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
