Description: This is the 1895 Massachusetts Institute of Technology yearbook, featuring the renowned businessperson and philanthropist Alfred P. Sloan (1875-1966) , class of 1895. Sloan would become president, CEO, and chairman of General Motors. He started his career after graduation from MIT with Hyatt Roller Bearings, which became United Motors Company and then General Motors Corporation. Sloan's image appeared on the cover of Time magazine in 1926. In 1934, he established the philanthropic Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The world's first university-based executive education program, the Sloan Fellows, started in 1931 at MIT under his sponsorship. A Sloan Foundation grant established the MIT School of Industrial Management in 1952. The school was renamed in Sloan's honor as the Alfred P. Sloan School of Management. Sloan's name also lives on in the Sloan-Kettering Institute and Cancer Center in New York City. His memoir, My Years with General Motors, became an instant bestseller when it was published in 1963. Oddly enough, Sloan's photo does not appear with other 1895 graduates, but he is named in two places in the yearbook: 1.) as a member of the fraternity of electrical engineers and 2.) as member of the graduating class of 1895. The yearbook is in very good condition. The back hinge is just beginning to crack. It has 259 pages, plus advertisements at the rear. It is 9.5" x 7.5" x 1.25" and is covered in red cloth.
