Description: This is an old envelope, postmarked in London in1887, that was sent to Ralph D'israeli (1809-1898). Ralph D'israeli was the brother of Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881), the famous British Prime Minister. Their father was Isaac D'Israeli (1766-1848), a notable British writer. (Note the minor variations in how they each spelled their last name). Unfortunately, this is ONLY the envelope. There is NO accompanying letter, and I have NO idea who originally sent it. The envelope is addressed as follows: Ralph D'israeli Esq89 Onslow Square S.W. (Ralph D'israeli lived at 89 Onslow Square for many years.) Please note: Ralph D'israeli had a son who was born at that address in 1867. The son's name was Coningsby Ralph Disraeli. This envelope could conceivably have been addressed to him, rather than to his father. However, It appears that he usually went by the name Coningsby Disraeli, rather than going by Ralph Disraeli. Also, the son does not seemed to have used the apostrophe in his last name. There is a postmarked stamp on theupper right corner of the front side of the envelope, and another postmark onthe upper left corner of the reverse side. The envelope is about 4" by 9". It has several rips and a few small missingpieces, as one would expect from an envelopethat had been opened. Of particular interest is some handwritingthat I found under the side flap of theopened end of the envelope. It statesthee following: With Mr. Munay's Compl.s I wonder, who was this Mr. Munay?
