Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . . 1887-1890 Old Judge tobacco card (N172) #69 - ABNER FRANK DALRYMPLE ~ Denver Grizzlies (Western Assoc.) Dalrymple had been a leading National League player for most of the decade before this photograph was made, making considerable contributions to Cap Anson's great clubs. Except for a brief stint in 1891, however, Abner had become a minor-leaguer. Back in 1878, Ab was National League batting champion when he batted .354 for Milwaukee - at age 20! REPRINT ~ Near-Mint "N172" (actually, simply "172") - the "N" (for 19th century) being added in later years - is the designation Jefferson Burdick in his American Card Catalog decades ago gave Goodwin & Company's Old Judge and Gypsy Queen cards of 1887-1890. Original cards from this set are now more than 120 years old and an individual card of the most common player will cost hundreds of dollars in top condition. This card is reproduced in close to the original 1-7/16" by 2-1/2" size (being 1/1/2" by 2-1/2") and features a black and white posed photograph on thin cardboard stock. The back has a snappy little biography (frequently with reference to the Old Judge issue) below the player's name and card number and closes with mention of that fact that the card is a REPRINT. Here is an opportunity to acquire a reprint of a very scarce card at a affordable price. Near-Mint Condition Collecting Tip: for those seeking detailed information regarding Old Judge cards - and especially N172's, we recommend (and sell) The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Co. ~ 1886-1890, the encyclopedic 459-page hardbound book. Shipping OPTIONS are available - YOUR CHOICE of either eBay standard envelope service (ESE) which is cheaper with slower delivery or USPS Ground Advantage (more costly for single cards but much faster delivery). We also offer UNLIMITED singles (up to and including 8X10 inches in size) shipped via Ground Advantage for the one card rate. Both services include insurance but USPS Ground Advantage is considerably quicker, with fewer limitations. _______________________ Important: Shipping Information Our goal has always been to keep shipping costs low.
