It is by Henry Tunison (1855-1915) published in Tunison's Peerless Universal Atlas of the World, Jacksonville, Illinois 1886, a copy of the title page is included for authenticity. It is from one of the rarer early editions of the Peerless Atlas, in which he used very strong and vibrant colors, especially the pinkish reds that have a fluorescent quality. It is the quality of the color that really sets Tunison's maps apart from his contemporaries, such as Rand McNally and George Cram. The color was hand applied, often by workers using stencils to speed up the process, a very typical practice of the period. These early Tunison maps, especially with the vibrant red, are actually scarce to find, we don't often have them in our inventory, although we do have a very nice selection of them at the time of this writing. There is either text or another map or partial map printed on reverse. It is not matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as shown in the main pic. Overall, a very nice map with strong color that would frame up well! Size: The dimensions of the map area between the neat lines measures 10 1/4 by 12 inches (25x30cm) on a page measuring 11 1/2 by 14" (29x36cm) with a margin all around as seen in the main pic. Condition: The map is in Very Good or better condition for its age with strong vibrant color that would frame up well. It is basically as seen in the pics with no obvious defects to mention, overall it is very clean well preserved map printed on strong flexible paper, see the pics for more on condition.
