Description: Popular and scarce issue, although the mintage of the 1874-CC eagle was just 16,767 pieces it was the largest production of this denomination at the Carson City Mint up to that point. The production actively circulated leaving survivors confined to lower circulated grades with only single Mint State coin known. Of the limited survivors PCGS has graded just four finer than this charming AU specimen. Boldly defined apart from the typical touch of weakness to the hair curls around Liberty's face, the eagle's neck and the fletchings. The surfaces are remarkably smooth considering its time in circulation with light chatter in line with the grade and no abrasions worthy of individual mention. Handsome orange-golden color coats both sides complimented by generous underlying luster. A significant rarity at this level, the advanced collector will surely take note! - Liberty Head $10
