Description: Here is a very nice old patriotic medal made of a white metal composition, in quite splendid condition overall, measuring app. 7/8" across, with a plain edge. Somewhat thin, it has been neatly holed at the top, and this attractive presidential piece shows hardly any wear, with only some tiny imperfections nothing serious. I have not done anything to clean or alter its appearance, and three of the photos have been "enhanced" for clarity. I cannot find the medal in either Baker or Musante, although it's possible I missed it, as there's not a lot of information out there on this one, but I am almost certain, however, that it is similar in design to some pieces identified at the back of the DeWitt campaign reference, such as AJACK-J, HC-B and DW-C. The book mentions these were part of a set of a dozen rejected embossing dies for stamps of the 1870 period, the first being Washington and the last, William Shakespeare. The obverse features the nation's first president facing right, with "Washington" along the lower left edge. The center of the reverse is an incuse shell-like design of the obverse. Excellent! $180.
