Collated, complete, with eighteen plates. The 'House of Cornelius Rufus' has been bound in as the frontispiece.Thomas Henry Dyer was an English historical and antiquarian writer. His first publication was 'The History of Modern Europe' and he also published two works on Rome 'History of the City of Rome' and 'History of the Kings of Rome'. The eighteen illustrations to this work are explained in great detail using information Dyer adapted from a work on Pompeii issued by the Society for the Diffusion of Entertaining Knowledge. A comprehensive history of the city of Pompeii, stimulated by the remains of the ancient city as seen through the eyes of the nineteenth century traveller. CONDITION In a contemporary calf binding. Externally, generally smart with patches of rubbing to the joints and extremities. Light damp stain to the front board. A few light marks to boards. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Occasional light scattered spots to pages, heavier to the rear of the plates.
