Description: I’m presuming the stamp to be US #65 – I can’t see or feel any grill – issued in about 1861. I don’t know if my "negative iron cross" description of the killer is correct – is it? Or negative crossed barbells, perhaps…? I couldn’t find another example of it in a fairly-thorough search of eBay and a quick try in a general online search as well. Mailed to slavery opponent Miss Betsy Mix Cowles, who you can learn about on her Wikipedia page. Condition – open about half way across the top edge and then via a tear down through the flap; mild general wear otherwise; noticeable soil/staining here and there. Thanks for bidding!
