Description: US Civil War Model 1860 Cavalry Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "Ames Mfg. Co.", "Chicopee.", and "Mass." and the reverse has "US" over "J.H." over "1859". The top rim of the pommel has another "J.H." and an illegible mark. The grip, guard and pommel are all tight. The knuckleguard has a little bend. The grip leather is 90% complete. The twisted wire is 95% complete, the last row by the guard has been shortened. The blade is straight, unsharpened, a couple very light nicks, and has some light age spots scattered throughout. The scabbard is solid with no dents/dings, and about half of the drag has worn away. The leather washer is intact. Length of the blade is 35" (1 1/8" wide and 3/8" thick), the sword is 40 13/16", and in the scabbard it is 42 1/2". The exact number of 1859 dated Ames Cavalry Swords is unknown, but there were 5000 swords made between 1859 to 1861. Check out my other War Items! Including More Swords and Many Bayonets!
