A great find from a local New England estate! This scarce antique first edition is over 168 years old! First edition. Ex-library. In great condition overall! Original publisher leather binding with contemporary marbled library covering with cloth spine. Binding shows wear for age including chipping to the marbled library covering, some rubbing and soiling to the boards and spine, a library sticker pasted to the front board, a library catalog sticker pasted to the spine, some general wear around the extremities including bumping to the corners and spine extremes, and moderate rubbing and soiling to the marbled page edges. Otherwise this is an attractive, well-preserved antique volume! Sturdy and square with no cocking! Internally, this volume is in good shape as well. Both boards and all page groupings remain attached to the binding. This is an ex-library volume with bookplates and library markings visible to the front and rear endpapers and fly pages, as well as the title page and copyright page. Otherwise this volume is clean and free from signatures and inscriptions. The text block of this volume is clean throughout. There is typical age-related toning to the pages, some light foxing and soiling scattered throughout, and general light page wrinkling and edge wear in spots, but otherwise this volume is very clean and perfectly readable throughout! Nicely illustrated with full page engravings. Make sure to see the additional photographs in the description below for a thorough look through this antique tome. 761 pages.
