1848 Future Civil War General Daniel Tyler Writes to James Ames: "Send Me Swords

Description: In a barely readable scrawl, Tyler writes from Norwich, CT to James T. Ames (Ames Manufacturing Co.) of Chicopee, MA.: "Send me swords for Uncle Sam if they can properly be done... all these matters may be settled while I am in Washington". 10" x 16" sheet of stationery is folded into a stampless cover addressed in Tyler's hand with a circular Norwich, CT cancellation. Letter is docketed in another hand "Dan Tyler Nov 30, 1848". Tyler has signed this one-plus page autograph letter with a hastily penned "D Tyl..". Daniel Tyler (1799-1882) served in the Civil War and ended his military career as a Brigadier General. His non-military life was equally as accomplished... he was an iron manufacturer, president of numerous railroads and even founded a town in Alabama.
