'Undine' is La Motte Fouque's most notable work and is a fairy-tale in which Undine, a water spirit, marries a knight named Huldebrand in order to gain a soul. 'The White Lady' is a story based upon the legend of the White Lady Ghost, said to haunt castles of several European aristocratic families.
