Description: Here's an early free blown whale oil lamp from the 1840 era with square pressed glass stair step base....elongated font is free blown, so has no mold seams...pressed glass base has square platform with 3 levels above that....applied glass wafer construction.....rough spot on underside of base where the pontil rod was snapped off....original pewter collar with two prong whale oil burner....10"tall....Excellent shiny nice condition with only one moderate size chip & several small chips around the square base. A split/crack in the side of pewter collar, but it is solid with no looseness. No other damage. A nice clean lamp with no haze.
