Description: The Silent Harp; Or, Fugitive Poems. By Elizabeth Allen and printed in Burlington, Vermont by Edward Smith. 1832, first edition, 120 pp. 7.5” x 4.75”, 8vo, hardcover original boards. In fair condition, with rubbing and wear to boards, with some losses along edges. Some tears to binding between front board and spine. Some cracking to hinges at front and rear, along with looseness to the front board. Text block remains bound well with minor wear. Light markings and marginalia. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. An extremely scarce piece, featuring the poetry of Elizabeth Allen, a young woman in Vermont who lost her hearing at age sixteen and turned to poetry as a means of expression. The preface includes this former fact, along with urging the reader to purchase the book to enable the author to have a source of income. A great piece for restoration. COLL1832DFIW-0724-aj1993
