Description: I have here for sale a book entitled THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE LIFE OF HIS LATE EXCELLENT AND MOST GRACIOUS MAJESTY, GEORGE THE THIRD. Embracing its most memorable Incidents, as they were displayed in the important relation of Son, Husband, Father, Friend, and Sovereign with a Variety of Secret Anecdotes of His Majesty, the Royal Family, and other Distinguished Characters, connected with the British Court. The Whole collected from the most authentic sources and tending to illustrate the causes, progress, and effects of the principal political events of His glorious reign. By Robert Huish, a first edition published by Thomas Kelly, London in 1821. There is also a most valuable and interesting Historical Memoir of the House of Brunswick from its early foundation to the present period, translated expressly for this history, from the celebrated Latin work entitle Origines Guelphicae. There are 16 b/w plates throughout the book, but the Royal Mausoleum has been hand coloured. This is the great biography of King George III who is best known for losing the USA, but was kind hearted, philosophical at heart, loved by his people as Farmer George, and also suffered mental issues. Perhaps this is a better biography of him than the one portrayed in Bridgerton.Half dark maroon leather on brown hardboards. Gilt bands and tiny motifs to the spine. Some tears and loss to the brown paper on both boards. Handmade marbled endpapers. Light foxing and staining here and there throughout and one page has been torn and then stapled back into position (see photos). Some bobbling of the paper, but all the pages are clean enough for the text to be perfectly legible. 724 pages including index. 27 x 22 cm. Condition is perhaps good.
