They were the second senior "Old Guard" cavalry regiment of the Imperial Guard, after the Grenadiers à Cheval. The regiment had its origins in the Guides raised by General Bonaparte during his Italian Campaign of 1796. It was the Chasseurs that usually provided personal escort to Napoleon, and he often wore the uniform of the regiment in recognition of this service. The regiment was not only known for its lavish uniform, but its combat history as well. Chasseur (French term for hunter) is the designation given to certain regiments of French and Belgian light infantry (chasseurs à pied) or light cavalry (chasseurs à cheval) to denote troops trained for rapid action. The 3rd and 4th Regiment of Chasseurs were created in 1815 and fought at Ligny and Waterloo. Several months later they were disbanded. The beaurocrats in Ministry of War named the newly formed regiments, the Old Guard, but the army called them Middle Guard. The Napoleonic era is a period in the history of France and Europe. It is generally classified as including the fourth and final stage of the French Revolution, the first being the National Assembly, the second being the Legislative Assembly, and the third being the Directory. The Napoleonic era begins roughly with Napoleon Bonaparte's coup d'état, overthrowing the Directory (11/9/1799), establishing the French Consulate, and ends during the Hundred Days and his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo (6/18/1815).James Barton, producer of Barton Miniatures, Ltd. 90mm white metal figures, began in 1978 and sculpted by Richard J.
