Description: A late 18th or 19th century Nevers French faience plate. Executed in tin glazed earthenware, completely hand-formed and hand-painted in classic French provincial design. The edges are beautifully scalloped. Having a central design in muted earth-tones of deep blue, yellow, green, orange and purple with delicate boarder. Produced during or immediately after the French Revolution; circa 1800, possibly earlier. Hand-marked “France” in cursive writing on back. Measures 11” diameter (widest) x 1”H. Condition: No notable damage. No obvious edge wear or fleabites. No noted glaze skips as is common with these pieces. Lite crazing noted when wet. Production related glaze pops on surface. Some pottery “slip” (clay slurry) on back. Object may have other subtle imperfections common with handmade pottery. Condition mentioned does not detract from overall aesthetic unless viewed closely and arguably adds to the inherent character of antique Faience. Additional images available upon request.
