Prebendary James Dallaway (1763-1834) was an English antiquary, topographer, and miscellaneous writer. He is known or his account of Constantinople and the Greek Islands, published in 1797; and his county history of the western parts of Sussex, of which he published two volumes in 1815-19. Dallaway was educated at Cirencester Grammar School, and then at Trinity College, Oxford, from where he graduated BA in 1782, and MA in 1784. He failed to obtain a fellow there, supposedly because he had written some satirical verses on a senior and influential member of the college. English heraldry is the form of coats and arms and other heraldic bearings and insignia used in England. It lies within the so-called Gallo-British tradition. Coasts of arms in England are regulated and granted to individuals by the English kings of arms of the College of Arms. An individual's arms may also be borne "by courtesy" by members of the holder's nuclear family, subject to a system of cadency marks, to differentiate those displays from the arms of the original holder. Interesting work with many plates, including seven hand-colored engravings! Perfect candidate for restoration (i.e. re-attach boards). RAREB1793EMOX - 12/23 - HK1036 FORN-SHELF-0460-BB-2409-HKREV68
