A great piece of history. Friedrich Wilhelm Martini (1729–1780) was a German physician and natural scientist. While very famous for his work on Conchology in 1769, he published General History of Nature in Alphabetical Order, Volumes 1-4, 1774–1778. Joachim Pauli (* September 20 1733 in Stettin , † December 29th 1812 in Berlin ) was a German printer and publisher. He founded 1761 in Berlin, a publishing company and was well known as the publisher of extensive reference works. From 1768-1825 he published nearly 500 titles comprehensive books, consisting mainly of economic, agricultural, forestry, biological and zoological works. In particular, he is famous for the Krünitzschen encyclopedias, the Natural History of Insects by Carl Gustav Jablonsky and Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Herbst, and the Universal History of Nature by Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon.
