The city of Leicester is one of the oldest cities in England, with an Iron Age settlement having been on the site since the second or first century BC. The author looks at the town and county as the country evolved through many monarchs, from the ancient times to the reign of George III.By John Throsby, a noted English antiquary; this was his first published work, and was promptly followed by other volumes exploring the antiquities of Leicestershire. This work was later incorporated by John Nichols in his equally important study on the antiquities of the county.Bookplate of Sir Richard Brooke, Baronet, to the front paste downs. CONDITION In a full marbled calf binding. Externally, smart, with some light marks to the boards and spines. Very small amount of loss to the head of the spines of Volumes III and IV. Light bumping to the extremities. Minor rubbing to the joints, boards, and extremities. Crack to the head of the joints of Volume VI. Bookplate to the front paste downs, mistaking pasted to the rear paste down of Volume V. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot. Folding plate of Volume III is detaching a little to the tail.
