Victorian hand made setting with hand soldiered bits and pieces custom made to hold a one of a kind 1888 O Gold 10 Mark Prussia Friedrich III coin. These 10 mark gold coins were only produced in 1888 and only known to have been made in Berlin - "A" mint mark. This particular coin has an "O" mint mark and is not suppose to exist. So, I cannot tell you a single thing about it. The details on this are correct, but not nearly the detail on the face or back relative to the quality of a finished coin. Given this fact, the coin is most likely a commemorative or medal made for this setting using a mold made from an original coin. King Friedrich's rein was from March to June of 1888, such a short period, and so not much is known about his rule. The band on the ring is marked 585. There are no other marks to facilitate dating it. The style is correct and how the piece was assembled is correct for the Victorian time period. The band is testing at a little over 13K gold. The coin is testing at 90% gold. Both using the Niton XRF Spectrometer. Provenance History; Unavailable. Purchased out of an estate in New Jersey.
