Description: These hard-to-find models (in the USA) came out a good 20 years ago. They're Quartzo 1:43rd scale models, with driver figures, of Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet's Brabham BT-50 and BT-52, cars run in 1982 and 1983, respectively. The 1982 BT-50 won the Canadian Grand Prix that year, with the BT-52, an entirely different looking car, winning the 1983 Brazilian GP, Nelson's home race. Both F-1 cars have their iconic blue and white liveries of the English-based Brabham team, with Italian sponsorship by "Parmalat"; an Italian diary and food-preparation company. The acrylic tops on these two models have no scratches. The white stick-on tags on the side of the acrylic tops are there and have not started to curl up like they often do on very old models. The tops display well and the cars and bases are great; the cars are perfect. The driver's red and white helmet, with white overalls, is faithful to what Piquet really wore. Both have their certificates showing they're part of a limited release of 4,000 examples worldwide (taped to the bottom of the display cases). These models are from a smoke-free, pet-free home so no odors. They have been kept out direct sunlight so no fading of colors or shriveling up of decals. Piquet also won one other race in 1982- his home GP in Brazil. He finished 11th in the standings in 1982 with 20 points due to a lot of DNF's and out-of-the-points finishes. In 1983, he won in Brazil, Italy and the European GP at Brands Hatch- clinching the 1983 F-1 Championship in his BT-52, finishing with 59 points, 2 ahead of Prost's 57. They clearly resolved their issues with DNF's in less than one year. He raced in 204 Grands Prix and won 23 total F-1 races; a 3-time World Formula 1 driving champion (won for Williams in 1981 and 1987, and Brabham in 1983). His auto racing career ended at the Indianapolis Indy car race track where he slammed the wall and suffered horrendous injuries to his lower legs. He is still a legend in Brazil and is known for his sometimes harsh words and practical jokes. His duels, on and off the track, with Nigel Mansell, his teammate at Williams, are the stuff of legend.
